March Matness Plank Challenge We at Kingfisher Yoga love a challenge. We started 2023 with the Yoga Challenge, and in February we offered the Mental Self Care challenge which is still in progress. We just can’t stop because we are seeing results in our physical, mental and spiritual health! So we have another one starting March 1st. The 5 minute plank challenge. Wait, wait wait, we are not starting with 5 minutes, we are building up to 5 minutes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, creating a strong core can help prevent back injuries and improve stability And one of the best ways to get the job done? Planks. Love ’em or hate ’em, planks are a supercharged way to tighten your core and shape your waistline. Many experts now recommend planking rather than crunches or situps, since planks put less strain on your spine and hip flexors. Plus, a plank will strengthen your back, glutes, hamstrings, arms, and shoulders at the same time. That’s a lot of gain for just 30–60 seconds of your time. Whether you’re an expert or a beginner, there are many variations of the plank to help you build a strong core. Even if you’ve never done a plank before, you can take this challenge. We’ve included plank variations below for any fitness level. As you begin these, Hold for UP TO 45 seconds. Do 3 sets. And slowly work your way up to longer times. Our goal is 5 minutes by the end of the month.
